Manners & Modern Life
Welcome to Manners & Modern Life, where the Domestic Daemon attempts to make sense of a world in which common courtesy is apparently becoming an endangered species.
Here you’ll find observations on etiquette, social conventions, modern absurdities and the little everyday irritations that make one wonder whether civilisation has quietly slipped out for a cigarette and forgotten to come back. From questionable behaviour in public to the peculiar habits of our increasingly digital lives, very little is safe from scrutiny.
I firmly believe that good manners have remarkably little to do with knowing which fork to use and everything to do with consideration for others. Kindness costs nothing, courtesy is not a sign of weakness, and being entitled to do something doesn’t necessarily mean you should.
Of course, nobody is perfect, least of all the Domestic Daemon.
But really, would it kill people to say please and thank you?
